I have this friend, total chill dude and is eager to be based.. 

Anywho....He is really curious why when he is signed into coinbase wallet with his primary wallet basename which he has had for over a year and goes to enable base mode - it disconnects him from his base wallet, and auto signs auto defaults to a random smart wallet address he was forced to make during the beta. 

He said it feels like enabling base mode just feels like he is turning off base mode.  Can anyone ELIV?

There are no keys in the traditional sense for ERC-4337 smart wallets, they use the passkey you set up upon creation.

is there a way to export the key for the smart wallet now? that was the worst part of trying to use one last year

My friends onboarding:

-decides to embrase crypto because he really believes in the tech.
-gets onboarded via /base 
- decides to register their first ENS 
-Then decides to secure their first base name (because hes based)
-hears about /farcaster - DIVES IN HEAD FIRST (wow this is all starting to make sense)
- here comes farcaster wallet ( a little curveball but manageable)
- smart wallet is a thing but not really necessary at this point. 
- coinbase wallet beta mode introduced- ok.... so I have a basename, but I need to create a new one? ok whatever ill do it.)
-coinbase wallet base mode introduced: "oh you know the base names you've invested time and energy into  the past year? yeah you cant use those - you have to create a completely new wallet thats irrelevant to anything you've done and also fund it. 

Suddenly, and ironically a smart wallet has become more complex than a normal wallet. 

Someone please tell me I have something wrong here. I pray im the one thats gotten this wrong.

I honestly don't know the answer at the moment, and yes I would agree it's currently pretty confusing. Ironically it's much less confusing if you are starting from scratch

I have a smart wallet. So are you saying TBA does not work with the basename we created? Im clearly still trying to learn and lean in as much as possible. but if we need yet, another wallet and cannot use our basename for..... THE BASE APP - it seems like it would be confusing and nonsensical to someone foreign to web3? would you not agree?
