Not sure on your history. Property rights require violence to enforce them. If you disagree, go steal something in front of a cop. Eventually an agent of the state will bonk you on the head if you refuse to yield to someone else's authority. And free market economies only possible through massive state intervention (2008 bailouts, political campaigns against trade unions, government subsidies, etc.) Scarcity is much less of an issue than it was in the past. Especially something like food. We have the technological means already for abundance. But because of political choices, we got billionaires and a new iPhone every year instead. What happens in the future will be a matter of what political battles get fought and won. If the Musks and Altmans of the world continue to hold the keys to the shoggoth, then we could have absolute abundance but scarcity for the rest of us could be maintained. What happens next is an utterly political question. Technological questions are secondary.

Running something like 2 x speed for me. Flashing smaller version of the screen top left. And checking for saved games box stayed up, although maybe I just didn't wait it out long enough. Blue also only sometimes loads for me. I'm on GrapheneOS, if that's somehow related.

Was thinking that. Will watch it a bit longer. I got a DM from the team, I guess because I followed them at some point. I responded asking what it is they're actually building so maybe I'll get convinced. Their "roadmap" is less than barebones. But buying coins at stupid times is how you make stupid money...

To anyone trying to get a public or third sector job, its so good for writing the BS you need for applications. Upload a pdf of your cv, the job description, and the points you want it to write against, and it does surprisingly well. Pays to write hyper verbose CV so it has access to examples to draw from.

I don't fuck with Farage, but he was arguably the greatest politician in a generation even before he became an MP. Maybe Sturgeon could have challenged him before they started digging up gold in her husband's garden.

Direct democracy in what context? On what things? At the scale of a whole society, probably not going to work. But no serious people propose that. You can have issue specific direct democracy, like referendums or California style ballot measures. These can be done good or bad of course, but theyre defensible if done right. You engage in direct democracy when you and your friends decide which bar to go to next. That sounds like a petty example, but so many things can be devolved to that level. Say you and your friends collectively own your workplace. Plenty of decisions with meaningful impacts on your lives could be worked out by just sitting round a table and talking it out. The term is relatively new but in so many ways humans are creatures of direct democracy. The issue is that so many aspects of our lives are abstracted upwards and taken out of our hands. Often very defensibly, but that doesnt mean democracy cant be introduced into many more areas of life.

Is there no Scottish nation, Catalan nation, Breton nation, Cherokee nation? They have their own languages, cultures, symbols, heroes, histories, etc. OP should use the word state. They seem to mean a bureacratic construction with weapons. Very different from (if often overlapping with) the concept of a nation.
