⛏️Last week, a solo miner successfully mined Bitcoin block 903,883, earning 3,173 BTC (about $350k), despite having only 2.3 PH/s of processing power (or just 0.00026% of Bitcoin’s total hash rate). The miner used Solo CK, a service that charges a 2% fee but eliminates the need for expensive mining infrastructure. According to a pseudonymous Dr. CK, a miner of this size has about a 1 in 2,800 chance of solving a block per day, or once every 8 years on average.
Solo mining has been compared to playing the lottery because of the extremely low odds of success. Most miners join pools to combine resources and split the rewards. However, miracles do sometimes happen. 5 replies
