this is what happens imo when we've obfuscated away all rules under the guise of 'permissionless' systems and have no law or regulation to hold these people accountable.

it's blind loyalty they all have to Jesse and Base. whereas I actually like Base but objectively can say - this is lazy pseudo-intellectual "innovation" these guys are producing. like there are so many amazing teams and builders on Base. And Jesse and team are *checks notes* 'coining everything' they cant even say with a straight face they want to embrace memecoin speculation.. lol

this. i swear, either these people are smoking crack and are delusional. or they are lying to your face knowingly saying deceptive and trying to labeling a 12h phenomenon and extrapolating to 12 month returns. i don't even know whats worse.

except base and zora much like crypto are very cyclical and flavor-of-the-week. all driven by quick greed. there is zero stickiness to products in crypto because everyone focuses on the wrong thing - short-term profitability vs. excellence in app/UI. you really gonna tell me with a straight face that even with IG @ $3 for 3m view - which is sustainable, that Base/Zora can maintain anywhere close to $28 for 12hrs or 12 days or 12 weeks?

I had such high hopes for Base back from '23 but this stupidity of 'coin everything' is lazy and lacks intellectual thought to actually try to building challenging things. Fwiw - I was one of the biggest critics of PumpFun - I wrote a report to the SEC documenting their various platform activities of how users were being robbed, farmed, scammed etc. All in plain sight with PF knowingly not doing anything. But at least, I knew Solana has incredible projects and talent building cool things and leadership team driving innovation in ambitious directions. Then I come check on Base and Jesse's tweets -- it's pure slop, regurgitated narratives of gambling, coining b.s etc. Literally zero authentic expression to try to actually build something cool & challenging or elevating teams that want to push the boundaries.

i think we're in the middle of 2018 style breakdown on BTC & Crypto at-large. what comes in 2026 onward will be the most amazing innovation and gains. first, we must endure the pain of this bear market

thanks for listening to me riff. p.s I actually think what is going to be MOST bullish out of all this is BTC (country agnostic currency) + crypto technology plays which are global and now having wider acceptance from global governments. I am super excited for the next 5 years!

this thread was more of a riff of my thoughts on markets, global/market dynamics and me just wanting to stake my case that: I believe we have fundamentally entered a bear market. One which is self-inflicted. But I don't think you shake out the global distrust in what's transpired over the past few weeks with just a back-tracking. We've now fully committed to this path. There's no going back, imo. Because going back effectively means we've accelerated the process of China & the world being less dependent on US, dollars, debt, etc. Going forward means, we try to find a middle ground and push our weight & power to at least drive reasonable outcomes for our middle-class whilst still maintaining trust and drawing capital to US equities.

The inner capitalism in me, however, says American corporations and global path has been set already for what the average American worker does/does not want to do. We are the best technologists, innovators, structured societies of democracy and order. What we are not: manufacturing agents, manual labor supply, cheap or rigorous hours in factory work, deep hands-on skill work. There is nothing wrong with this trade-off. However, I do wish more of America gets the benefit from the success and wealth creation. This part I fully agree with Trump/Bessent.

fwiw - I have a soft-spot for middle of America and blue-collar workers. My Dad has been a blue collar worker all his life. I've seen how hard times our family or his friends' families faced in the last 15-20 years. if we're really going through with Trump's plan of reshoring manufacturing + "Main street's turn", we better try to figure out which metrics to use to ensure we're on the right track.
