Big AI reg news from UK. NHS has just issued a Priority Notification telling to halt any ambient-voice/AI-scribe tools that lack MHRA Class I (NHS equivalent of FDA med device) registration and a full safety. More importantly for physicians, liability lands on the deploying organisation or individual physicians. NHS and FDA have significant similarity in regulations so means that AI will likely be treated as a med device for FDA approval and clearance purposes.

This is so stupid and prohibitive. I really hope the US does not put out similar guidance

Yup this is basically what they did with EMRs in adding 50 layers of regulatory hurdles so no other small competition could enter. And now we’re stuck with paying a base of $400/mo just for a simple EMR. It both kills off competition while putting burden on physicians for errors similar to Dragon.

Yeah, Dragon immediately came to mind with this. I'm not aware of regulations on Dragon but I use my AI scribe like a more advanced Dragon Bad regulations like this are why we still have to fax medical records, regulators can't keep up with tech meaning the industry gets slowed
