The Amps exploit was due to an unprotected reinitializer on their upgradeable contract. The attacker called reinitialize, set themselves as the owner, and changed the implementation to a malicious contract. This is a very common bug in upgradeable contracts. (1/5)

We @VennBuild  just discovered a critical backdoor on thousands of smart contracts leaving over $10,000,000 at risk for months

Along with the help of security researchers @dedaub @pcaversaccio, the seals team @seal_911 and others, we managed to rescue the majority of funds

On July 8, @VennBuild  spotted anomalous transactions.

Attackers exploited uninitialized ERC1967Proxy contracts (a common proxy standard), front-running deployers to set malicious implementations &amp; spoofing @etherscan’s UI with fake upgrade events.
