it's a mistake to be a founder/builder turning to philosophy only to find ways to be more competitive/efficient

re-reading this gem from scott. reading it for the first time made me re-evaluate my deeply-held political views in a real way. https://slatestarcodex.com/2014/07/30/meditations-on-moloch/

built a really crazy MVP for my good friend's new startup. he flew to SF so that we could jam. the demo is wild: you get this god-mode panel and can send swarms of elevenlabs robots to call local businesses to do automated research + all the data gets parsed and analzed by LLMs into structured data. you get to watch the calls being made in real-time on a map. it took us 1 day. 3 months ago it would have taken 1 week. 2 years ago it would have taken 1 month.

If I was building a technical team right now, I’d plan into the culture one day per week of self-guided learning of the latest AI tools

when travelling, the “best” place always gets piled with, and ruined by tourists. but the “second best” place is usually just as good yet most ignore it.

my girlfriend and I have been reflecting: if we could do anything at all in this moment, and live any kind of life, and we could really choose anything - we would be doing exactly what we're doing right now. The obvious part for me is being honest with what I want and aiming at it. I also think that the compliment to that is letting go and submerging fully to what life is serving me, and so naturally finding the satisfaction in it.

just offered to teach my girlfriend's colleague (in her 60s), her husband, daughter and the daughter's boyfriend how to use AI, in exchange for a homemade italian dinner + free ice cream at her husband's ice cream shop in downtown reflection: 1. the barter economy is not dead. 2. i fucking love SF.

two things I'm optimising for right now: - learning as many new things as possible. I'm working on 4 projects simultaneously, all part time. this also means I never get bored. - have at least half of my time as free/unplanned - my contracting gigs are all part-time, where I commit to a # of hours/month, but I get to choose the hours. this means I can follow my curiosity in the moment. this one thing makes me stay in flow 90%+ of my time and makes working a magnitude more enjoyable/addictive.
