~ I'm moving to US 🇺🇸 ~ My visa got approved today. After 2yr sabbatical, I'm moving in to New York - just in time for FarCon! Nowhere in the world have I experienced such an incredible mix of generosity, high energy, and ambition as in US. Although I have traveled *a lot* over the past decade and was a resident in several countries, the idea of coming to the US never crossed my mind. Last year was different. I got to FarCon '24 and traveled across the states. I had no plan. I ended up attending weddings and family reunions. Online friends and old colleagues welcomed me into their homes. There were stretches of days when I didn't spend a cent on food because of generosity of my American friends (who won't take no as an answer!) My only hope is that I will be able to give back to those who treated me so dearly and contribute to a culture that made me who I am today. And now, after such a long break, I'm back (again again again again) in business (literally)

You can use 100mb in-memory json as primary database, have higher uptime than replicated serverless postgres, and still make money btw

Hard to justify $7 latte when I can have a pull request made by AI for the same price

A client said we're using obscure tech instead of popular options. That’s exactly the point, I said, the real power is in leveraging tech that most don't grasp to *reduce* the number of devs needed Even without AI, you can gain a huge advantage by using languages like Clojure & Elixir, or frameworks like Effect & Rails

Asynchronous coding agents like OpenAI Codex or Google Jules make much more sense to me than copilots. Copilot completions & copilot agents rarely produce anything useful for problems I'm facing. I actually disabled them all together. For async coding agents I write a spec, run two or three of them in parallel, and get reasonable results. Much better experience.
