TON Wallet officially launches for U.S. users in Telegram
Today, TON Wallet (Telegram’s native crypto wallet) has officially become available to U.S. users: https://cointelegraph.com/news/telegram-launches-native-crypto-wallet-for-87m-us-users
What does this mean for projects in the TON ecosystem?
Previously, if your project wanted to steer clear of U.S. users and relied on Telegram’s KYC/geoblocking, that’s no longer enough.
We used to sometimes advise early-stage projects not to build their own U.S. geoblock and instead rely on Telegram: if U.S. users couldn’t access TON Wallet, they couldn’t interact with the project. Sure, other wallets existed, but for MVPs it made sense.
Now, with TON Wallet opening up to the U.S. (at least officially), any U.S. user could potentially access your project via Telegram. You can’t rely on Telegram’s geoblocking anymore—you need to screen and filter users yourself.
