"Is TikTok really that unsafe? Yes. TikTok undoubtedly collects far more info than it needs & has unclear data privacy protections [...] If you’re concerned about maintaining your privacy & minimizing how much personal info you expose, you should delete it immediately" https://protonvpn.com/blog/is-tiktok-safe/

Cuz paying for content and software that you find valuable and ethical is a vote for them not resorting to using your data to make money in nefarious ways MediaBiasFactCheck consistently saves me from trusting dubious sources for news

Why Firefox: Mozilla is one of the only 'tech giant' type entities that has stuck to user-first, privacy-preserving, tech-advancing values. It refuses to sell out, is not-for-profit, takes community contributions & builds in public meanwhile, Chrome: blocks uBlock Origin. Secretly collects data when you use Incognito.

We're in an era where Google could single-handedly have more influence on the obesity crisis than government initiatives ever could - if you Google map "food" in your area (US mostly) - fast food chains are prioritized in view. Do they pay for that? Who knows, but I'm certain it influences people's eating habits

youtube is a sneaky monopoly and it makes me sad it's too coincidental that not a single competitor for a simple idea (video-sharing platform) can get any market share it's also infuriating that my search results are so obviously curated to push big news outlets at me (CNBC, MSNBC, Fox, etc) - paid-for content?

Trent Van Epps wrote a blog on how to keep software commons (like Linux and Ethereum) safe from capture, especially in their early stages: https://trent.mirror.xyz/GDDRqetgglGR5IYK1uTXxLalwIH6pBF9nulmY9zarUw

Has anyone figured out how to use Mullvad VPN with the kill switch on and still navigate public network login pages? I feel like connecting for a second to pass the login page defeats the purpose of a VPN

uBlock Origin: https://ublockorigin.com/ I don't know how people survive without this. "Free. Open-source. For users by users. No donations sought. If you ever want to contribute something, think about the people working hard to maintain the filter lists you are using, which are available to use by all for free."

MediaBiasFactCheck: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/ Whenever I get sent a news article from a source I don't recognize, I check MBFC to see where they land on political bias and on their history of accurate reporting

Mozilla manifesto: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/manifesto/ Mozilla is one of the few online companies that has stuck to its core values without fail - one reason I'm a Firefox maxi and endlessly bug developers who only make sure their applications work on Chrome
