With the fingerprints DAO split/dissolution likely, I am thinking about how collector DAOs can be viable. My one guess is that it makes most sense when members personally own pieces from the collections that the DAO has collected from, and thus have personal stake in the continuous promotion of the work as well as something to lose if the DAO dissolves (sell pressure, loss of visibility/prestige for the collections). Another one is the potential synergies between collecting and publishing or other revenue generating activities (nfts from your publishing arm fetch more because your curated collection lends you prestige). Fingerprints performance in this was hit and miss.

Yuga got quite the attention with this, but the reality is you can either have true collector ownership or airtight royalty enforcement. You cannot have both. I rather see artists keep a % of the collection than see the core value proposition of NFTs being diluted.

Reflecting on how memecoins assumed the role some NFT collections fulfilled during the height of the 2021 craze. Since then it became obvious that NFTs cannot beat memecoins in liquidity. Could this be one reason why we see less 1-10k collections and more <200 collections? 🤔

Patents or scientific publications provide better templates (e.g., compared to paintings) when it comes to appraising NFT art. NFTs are essentially information and their reach is not limited by physical space + beautiful visuals are now abundant. "Buy what you like" (taken at face value) has become obsolete.

Not sure about a strict collectibles vs. art distinction but the predictions sound about right. https://twitter.com/rudyadler/status/1777331360186675277

Musing of the day. Gas prices have been high lately, which again poses the question: What will happen to low-value NFT transactions on ethereum L1? I see 4 possible scenarios:

it indeed feels like it, but many nft collectors probably think the same about eth or btc. Hard to see a more mature market unless we have a new buyer profile or denominator assets become less volatile. https://twitter.com/figure31_/status/1752111947464503798

perhaps the most accurate metaphor for NFT markets. even more relevant with the recent interest towards ordinals and others. https://twitter.com/ChrisF_0x/status/1633165138747355157
