If, like me, you thought that “France,” “Franco,” or “French” were words derived from Latin, you’re mistaken - just like me 👀 The region was originally inhabited by the Gauls, and when Rome fell, it was taken over by Germanic kingdoms called the "Franks" 😯 and their language influenced the local Latin, which is why French developed differently compared to other Romance languages Wow, I’m still amazed by this fact 🫨

One of the funniest historical facts I came across 😂 The Vikings actually reached North America about 500 years before Columbus (around 1000 AD), but since they were fishermen, and fishermen usually keep good fishing spots secret 😂 they didn’t spread the word about it. That’s why, until today, the “discovery” of America is tied in most people’s minds to just one name: Columbus.
