My Devconnect insights:
▫️Ethereum is recovering:
After Trump’s coin, the @ethereumfndn took a big hit. There were a lot of complaints about their management and organization. That’s now changing thanks to fresh minds like @binji and @lou3e. Love the work they’re doing around narrative.
▫️Mini apps are the way to go:
They are the silent killer for onboarding people into crypto. @base.base.eth, World, and @farcaster have been building around the concept and laying the foundations, and now more brands are following the path. Lemon App already announced they will let projects leverage their user base and liquidity by hosting mini apps inside Lemon. Some of the announced ones include prediction markets like @Polymarket.
▫️Builders’ attention is the most valuable asset:
Builders are what most projects care about. I know the word sounds cringe… but it’s true. Builders bring apps, and apps bring volume to any ecosystem. Acquisition and retention are the hard parts. Fortunately, with @talent we’re already working with some of the major brands to help them get builders’ attention.
▫️Token business is the easiest way to make money:
Most of the brands I talked with either made a lot of money by launching a token or are planning to launch one. We can’t blame them, it’s just the meta.
▫️Airdrops are not effective anymore:
All the projects launching a token are now moving to a segmented approach, where they identify the most reputable users and set allocations for them.
▫️Events that lean into local culture stand out:
Uniswap Cup was one of the best events I’ve ever attended (and I didn’t even play). The organization, the decoration, the way they nailed Argentinian culture so accurately… it was amazing. But the best part wasn’t the event itself, it was the collab with @Polymarket. Having a financial incentive on top of the game was the key for engagement. Kudos to the whole @uniswap team.
▫️Everyone is bullish on privacy, but no one cares about privacy:
Huge events and lots of panels about the tech, with Aztec as a clear leader in the space. Still, most of the people I talked with just don’t care. It’s cool, yeah, but they’re not willing to sacrifice any UX for more privacy. Only big enterprises are (and that’s where the focus is).
▫️Private dinners are the best event format:
They’re the best way to really get to know people and strengthen relationships (when organized well). They’re not expensive, they don’t last too long, and everyone loves a free fancy dinner. Shoutout to myself for organizing Builder's Table #6
▫️Ecosystem that support their apps will win:
Many brands gave their top and emerging apps real space at events, booths, stage time, and chances to showcase what they’re building. That kind of free exposure is incredibly valuable. If they win, your ecosystem wins. Arbitrum and WalletConnect’s booths, plus Base batches, were a perfect example of this.
▫️Creators everywhere:
Creators were openly involved in every activity. They went from recording TikTok videos to highly produced content in studios. I have to shoutout @dappadan @jessyjeanne @nikkifrommiami.eth, @vanacoinempress.base.eth, and @crypto_goblinz and @deecentralized, who were on my feed all day.
▫️Just use Aave:
Most of crypto users are not degens; they’re normal people who don’t know the best strategies to maximize returns. For them, the answers I got were: either they’re not getting any yield, or they use AAVE. The new app they’re launching will help convert the ones who say they’re not getting returns.
▫️Argentina showed the world what it can do:
We managed to host thousands of foreigners, and everyone was talking about us on social media. It all started with the amazing organization by Devconnect, and extended to all the local products that prepared to give tourists the best experience possible (Peanut, Offramp, BeTrusty, etc.). Special applause for CANDU for carrying so much of the organization on her shoulders.
