What happens when a hand-drawn cartoon character jumps off the screen and into real life? 🐐 The BizarreBeasts universe has lived in my sketchbooks, physical paintings, interactive browser games, and custom digital animation software. But a package just arrived at my studio that takes my core framework of building BizarreBeasts (Make. Anchor. Play. Spread. Belong.) to a whole new level. I turned my original illustrations and digital animation rigs of @jasperbb, the BIZARRE mascot and character in our upcoming DCP+ series (@dcpfoundation), into a custom, handcrafted live-action puppet. Now he's hanging out in the studio, going to be giving behind-the-scenes tours, and generally GOING BIZARRE around Downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. On October 7th, I’m leading a two-part workshop at the Ozark Media Arts Festival (OMAF) in Springdale, AR! Growing up, I was constantly told that art wasn't a "viable career." Without working artists in my circle or exposure to the resources available today, I lacked a clear blueprint. After the experience I've gained building an independent art practice with BizarreBeasts ($BB), I’ve learned many valuable lessons that I want to pass on. What I'm covering: ✅ Live Animation Demo: Taking a hand-drawn character from paper to screen, then rigging and animating it live using custom software I engineered through AI-assisted development with Claude by Anthropic. ✅ Creative Framework: The 5 methods I used to turn raw art into a sustainable practice: Make. Anchor. Play. Spread. Belong. ✅ Pragmatic AI Collaboration: Demonstrating how to leverage AI as a technical co-pilot to build custom tools and streamline workflows without ever sacrificing human thought or raw craftsmanship. @kateyarter and I got to spend some time in Springdale, AR, checking out the town and all the cool things downtown. Took a break at Onyx Coffee Lab and did some illustrating on the sofa, breaking in a brand new Posca marker. Ended the day at The Medium Art Gallery for David Condolora's exhibition and animatic presentation of "The Fox in the Walled Garden." Notebook sketches, character designs, storyboards, editing timelines, all of it out in the open, and we were fortunate to catch the presentation itself plus a Q&A with some of the creative team. I am deep in my own independent animated series right now, so this arrived at exactly the right moment. Real appreciation to David for showing the process, and to The Medium for supporting independent creators. Still new to Northwest Arkansas, and days like this are why we moved here this summer. The BIZARRE journey continues!

Huge personal milestone: my animated piece "All Cooped Up" was selected for Our Art 2026, presented by Walton Arts Center! 🐓🎨 Selected out of 371 artists across NWA, this is my first-ever gallery animation exhibition and my first local show since moving to Bentonville. Location: Alexander Gallery at Porter Art Warehouse (Fayetteville, AR) Exhibition Dates: Sept 25 – Dec 20, 2026 Opening Reception: Sept 25 | 6–8 PM (Free, timed entry!) The piece features 123 hand-illustrated chickens (205 eyes staring right back at you) in an 80-second infinite loop. In February 2024, BizarreBeasts found its home on @farcaster, like many other builders and great communities. Every meaningful thing that has happened with BizarreBeasts, and all the GREAT relationships I have made, traces back to building in public on Farcaster. Including the opportunity to create full-time and produce a streaming BizarreBeasts animated series on DCP+ (@dcpfoundation) So, I illustrated a BIZARRE piece of tribute artwork derived from the animation I am creating. The artwork features a hand-illustrated edition of the Farcaster arch into set in Bizarre City. Just wrapped up an incredible day at The Next Frame event, part of the Bentonville Film Festival at The Momentary! 🏛️🎨 It was amazing to see so much local energy focused on the future of storytelling, STEAM, and creative production tools. We spent the afternoon connecting with fellow creators and talking about what we are building with BizarreBeasts ($BB), and the massive opportunities opening up for independent creators on DCP+ (@dcpfoundation). Today, I'm excited to share kids.bizarrebeasts.io! 🎨👾 I wanted to create a space where kids can go BIZARRE and play games, color, draw, and make their own digital creations in the interactive Sticker Studio using hand-drawn BizarreBeasts ($BB) artwork and characters. BizarreBeasts Kids is a safe place to hang out on the internet. The site has: ❌ Zero ads ❌ Zero sign-ups ❌ Nothing to purchase ❌ No tracking It is just pure, creative fun.
