I recently checked out the newly opened Leona Botanical Cafe; It's co-owned by owners of Veracruz & Dee Dee, fusing Thai and Mexican influences into a multi-eatery and cafe bar on 5 acres land once owned by women's advocacy philanthropist Betty Grubbs. The property features a cafe & bar, three eateries (only 2 open right now), and a botanical garden featuring 90 trees preserved from the original site, over 7,000 native plants, and a stream through the center that separates the main cafe from the dining outposts. The plants were designed to feature different seasonal blooms throughout the year so the landscape is in constant change. The team partnered with architecture firm Clayton Korte, landscape architecture firm Campbell, engineering firm MIGL, general contractor G Creek, and landscape contractor X Scrapes Environmental to build this space. Definitely worth a trip out to Sunset Valley to relax and explore for a few hours. But choose your time wisely — the weekend was insanely crowded. Atmosphere: 5/5 Drinks: 3.5/5

I’m making an additional 12L of cold brew today to use up my leftover beans from last weekend’s popup. I’ll be handing containers out to friends around the city today and tomorrow. hmu if you want a jar and we’ll coordinate a drop off/pickup (it’s better than what you’re buying at HEB)

Went to mingle with some creative folks at the Highland Collective, had a delicious veggie Banh Mi with fried mushrooms from a food truck and allowed myself some downtime after a flu shot, watching some good ‘ol Netflix. Nothing deep or philosophical from me today…brain’s got to rest 😀 ☮️

Huge community event to be aware of this weekend: Cyclovia ATX on Nov 8, 10-2pm 1 mile of neighborhood streets closed off to motor vehicles. 4 hours of activities focused on community, mobility, and sustainability. There are 3 days left for early voting in the Nov 4 election. The biggest issue is arguably Prop Q, a proposed tax rate increase to fund a variety of city programs. There are also 17 amendments to Texas' constitution, as well as mayoral and city council races.
