Founders, Beware of Scammers During Fundraising!
Raising capital is tough, and unfortunately, it attracts scammers looking to exploit founders. Here’s a recent case I experienced that serves as a critical warning:
The Scam:
1. Website looked suspicious: newly registered, no team info, and poorly designed forms.
2. No face on video calls, and no verifiable social profiles.
3. The Catch: he promised an investor who would wire $600k for my $500k pre-Seed round—sounds great, right?
But here’s the twist:
I had to instantly pay back $100k USDT.
This creates a triangle where the “agent” could vanish, leaving both sides scammed.
Lessons Learned:
- Always verify websites, check for a professional online presence, and dig deep into who you’re dealing with.
- Never agree to unusual conditions or rushed repayments
- Legitimate investors don’t require such setups.
Scammers prey on the stress and excitement of fundraising.
