Seven U.S. Democratic senators have issued an open letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, demanding an explanation for President Trump's pardon of Binance co-founder CZ. The senators accused the pardon of sending a signal to the cryptocurrency industry that "it can commit crimes with impunity" and questioned whether there was a financial connection between Trump and Binance.
The letter mentioned that the Trump family's decentralized finance platform, World Liberty Financial, had business dealings with Binance, and there were reports that Binance had paid large sums of money to Trump-related lobbyists. CZ had previously admitted to violating the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act, and the senators are concerned that the pardon will weaken the ability of federal law enforcement to combat cryptocurrency crime.
