I don't understand why all crypto people always want to exchange Telegrams when you meet IRL. It's just like exchanging numbers: creates a dead end. Much better to connect on Farcaster, Twitter, even LinkedIn, so that at least there's some passive social context to further develop the relationship. Otherwise you have to remember who the person is based on their name, force a conversation to keep in touch, etc. Passive social context is powerful. There's a reason that people ask for Instagrams and Snapchats in both romantic and friend contexts instead of numbers these days. Side note: I still don't understand how you can work in crypto and not be on Farcaster. Feels like one of the highest leverage things you can do to continue to build your network in the industry and perhaps more importantly actually try and use new onchain (mini) apps.

Itโ€™s low status to ask for a Farcaster because itโ€™s high status to make fun of Farcaster ๐Ÿ˜ž

Socially you are right. But to actually get something done, Telegram DMโ€™s are a far superior experience. Invites, editing, file + image sharing, group chats. They arenโ€™t comparable currently. X + LinkedIn dmโ€™s both suck too, so this is why TG is used here. Good op for Farcaster imo.

this was the problem we identified and wrestled with in early days of icebreaker. a better QR to share with all the social context anyone might want a few learnings: getting a direct channel of comms to the person in front of you is the desired outcome for most networking events there is social pressure and expectation to not make someone do something new and annoying, and connect quickly. most importantly secure the connection in a way that can be reengaged later telegram is the social norm in crypto and everyone knows โ€œthe danceโ€. that fact alone is hard to overcome - and that new QRs are regarded with suspicion at large at crypto events bc scammers etc. telegram connection is super fluid also - Scan QR, tap hello sticker, done. thatโ€™s hard to beat. non-crypto events is usually instagram, email, or linkedin depending on who you are, you have different goals at an event. BD and Sales people have full systems for reviewing who they met at an event and following up after. most people donโ€™t have this and itโ€™s a โ€œdead endโ€ as you say. one way to help alleviate it is use your icebreaker link in your telegram bio for all your links or put your fc link in - any additional context in TG bio is helpful. itโ€™s annoying a lot of people donโ€™t do this. tricky nut to crack

yes - and - CT was the place to be when devs launched tokens with a promise to build an app or protocol later. the entrier 'set and setting' on CT is catering for that era. That era is dying - imo we'll get a mass extinction event in the CMC500. Why? Don Com bubble and bust again. The institutions are coming and ask for revenue. Then the users are coming and ask for useful products. We are becoming the early substrate for this new era. Some big CT names will eventually come here with a 7 fig FID, will unlearn and integrate. Most won't be able to unlearn. They'll stay on CT in their niche and age together. AOL was still a live product until only very recently...

Why do you think it happens though? Because I still do this even though directionally I agree with you, Iโ€™ll share in reflection why I continue to use TG instead: - Confidence in ask the other user has TG - Directly focused on P2P messages, feels like a social behaviour norm to respond more so (accountability) then making a second interaction from a social follow/connection - Inbox functionality is better (grouping messages, sharing auto replies)
