Did any of you see the resignation letter from Mirinank Sharma, an AI researcher at Anthropic (the team behind Claude, etc.)? Not sure if everyone remembers, but blockchain itself emerged from a somewhat similar moment, when OGs of the internet pushed back against increasingly aggressive models of data extraction and control. He said he didn’t want to contribute to something that could lead humanity toward a hecatomb(a massive, catastrophic loss of life or destruction) mentioning risks like bioterrorism and toxic manipulation of information. He also pointed out that people are starting to lose themselves in these systems, with many already turning to AI for comfort, friendship, and emotional support, raising concerns about the abyss humanity might be approaching and how difficult it may become to preserve genuine human authorship and creativity.
