Did someone destroy a wonder just to be remembered? 🔥 Here’s a reflection on Herostratus — his act, our fascination, and what it reveals: ⸻ He struck in 356 BCE: the mighty Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) was set ablaze, and the man behind it declared his motive as simple: immortality through destruction.  The city tried to erase him—issued a law forbidding anyone from speaking his name. But ironically, the name survived.  He’s become a symbol: the archetype of someone who commits a shocking act not for ideology, not for justice, but simply to be known. The term “Herostratic fame” or “Herostratus syndrome” is used to describe that impulse.
