some additional thoughts: jack ma used to have some great comments on this — basically that outsourcing manufacturing was the west's idea (and was a great strategy) because that way everyone ate. but the west couldn't just be content with that. we had to start trying to eat from that plate and everyone elses. that's how we got counterfeits, leaks, fakes, dupes, etc... now we're at the logical end of the snake eating itself. by the west's own design the manufacturers are eating so well that now we have things like threats of tariff, trade wars and western people honestly asking "who was globalization actually good for?"

It was good for Asian countries, international capital, western asset holders and their wards. The western kulaks? Absolute disaster.
