Well hello hello, I have another Wikipedia rabbit hole! Today I learned about The Hypostasis of the Archons. It's a gnostic text that was found in the Nag Hammadi library (another fascinating read), and it describes a gnostic interpretation of the creation of the world/humans. The Archons were malevolent entities who rule the material world and trap souls in a physical existence.
