Japanese nursery schools are built different. Yesterday was the Setsubun festival celebration at school. 福は内鬼は外👺 To celebrate, one of the teachers dressed like a Oni, a Japanese demon. The job of the three year olds was to throw these little dried beans at them and drive them away. Watching the video of this happening, Ninety percent of the children are completely terrified and crying, all huddled together in a corner. One child is looking confused under a desk, eyes darting back and forth. A brave child is actually throwing the beans trying to drive the oni away. And my son (*sigh*) is holding hands with the oni and smiling.
