Tourism in Italy isn’t an all over phenomenon. Foreign tourists travel mostly to the main cities. Places like Venice, Florence, Rome, and a few others can have their centres literally chocked by tourists. Generally these throsmg of tourists concentrate in a very limited area of the city, while the rest of the city is pretty much tourist-free. If you go to Rome you will find throngs of tourists around the Vatican and around the Coliseum, but you will be hard pressed to find a single tourist at Arco di Travertino or Magliana.
