@zemm
The Semi Finals are wrapped, and the Databaseball.fun Season 2 World Series begins tomorrow at noon!
Here are the matches:
S Tier: Portobellos @javabu.eth v.s. NotPhillies @shrutebuck
- The Portobellos tilt modern, with Aaron Judge, Mark McGwire and Alex Rodriguez pacing their monster lineup, and Jacob Degrom and Randy Johnson bookending their rotation. The NotPhillies have more of an era mix, with old timers Babe Ruth, Hughie Jennings, Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig in the lineups, and Christy Mathewson seasonss in two rotation slots.
AAA Tier: Prospectors (anon) v.s. Hard90s @kagami
- These two teams have fairly different looks with the prospectors going heavy on contact hitters - their entire lineup is over .300 and Ty Cobb, Sherry Magee and several other players presenting excellent speed in the bases. Their #1 starter Dutch Leonard is the best starter in the AAA world series. The Hard90s, on the other hand, seem to like 3 true outcomes players who get on base via the walk and hit the ball into the stands, like Darrel and Dwight Evans. They also have an even rotation with 5 pitchers around 8 PV.
AA Tier: AA HOFers @blockchainhof v.s. Scallions @grilledonion
- Two teams with similar skill sets, but the HOFers lean more on strikeout pitchers in the rotation, with Chris Sale, Jordan Zimmerman, Smoltz and DeGrom giving the pitching staff a modern look. The Scallions won 19 less games than the HOFers, and have to be considered the underdog, though their Willie Mays 1958 is the best hitter on either team.
A Tier: Catwalk @plantsnft v.s. Moneyballers @kagami
- Both Catwalk and the MoneyBallers looked for market inefficiencies by employing negative PV players in key pitching roles, and both marched through to the World Series. Catwalk features two soft-tossers atop the rotation in Jim Bagby 1916 and Danny McFaden 1938, and a no-holes lineup centered around Stan Musial 1951. The Moneyballers lineup of power hitters includes Mel Ott, Frank Robinson and Yordan Alvarez, and their staff leans on modern arms like Chris Sale 2015.
B Tier: Benchwarmers @kagami v.s.TiptoeOnBase @xpysie.base.eth
- Kagami's magic was most notable here on the Benchwarmers, who won 141 games this year. They found short season players with great rate stats, and were nearly unbeatable at this lower level. TiptoeOnBase, meanwhile, does not employ a shortstop at all, relying on pure ghost player energy to win via supernatural aura. Joe Dimmagio, Josh Donaldson and Jimmy Ryan, are also a legit core of hitters that can do damage.
