This state of mental health in this country is in shambles. Doctors are not required to have a max number of patients per day, so they always schedule back to back with the min legal time as the default visit length. This directly impacts the quality of care, level of attention to detail, and actual shits given for the patient or accountability for their progress over time. They optimize for volume. This has downgraded the quality of care and diluted the Hippocratic oath. It cascades into providers always being late, their admins not giving enough of a shit to give patients a heads up, and the classic Curb Your Enthusiasm debate about scheduled times vs waitlists to be seen. This bush league system is all about maximizing throughput and provider upside vs quality personalized care at scale. If a psychiatrist target billable rate for insurance is $250 with one individual patient or $750 with three in an hour. What do you choose? So many psychiatrists are just order takers at pill farms and have zero interest in going above or beyond in the interest of the patient. The behavioral health system in America is broken and we should demand better. How have doctors with higher standards and ethics and values not formed to coalition? Who is building One Medical for this?
