You should check out Ted Chiang's article in the New Yorker about ChatGPT — he likens the whole thing to a lossy text compression algorithm of the entire internet. He's also one of my favorite sci-fi authors. https://www.newyorker.com/tech/annals-of-technology/chatgpt-is-a-blurry-jpeg-of-the-web
