The next onchain meta will be fundamentally different from everything we have seen before.
ICOs, DeFi Summer, NFTs, GameFi, and finally Memecoins – 99% of the projects that spawned out of those metas sold narratives with no underlying fundamental value (only perceived one).
And memecoins were the logical extreme of this approach. They stripped LARP crypto assets down to its purest form: global, 24/7, permissionless speculation under a single contract address with one pool of liquidity, instant entry and exit, allowing anyone with an internet connection to both create and trade them. In that sense memecoins are the ULTIMATE vaporware tech.
But paradoxically it is the reason why they mattered. Memecoins proved that crypto without fundamental value is not sustainable and taught millions of people how to invest into high-risk assets. We as an industry were drunk on narratives for years and this is our hangover. It is time to get sober.
The next onchain meta won’t be a new type of LARP (well maybe it will appear but I don't believe it will be as big as memecoins). It will be the same infra we built but pointed at real value-producing assets. Both on-chain and off-chain.
What changes is what people speculate on. We will move towards cashflow/revenue projections analysis and ownership rights. Speculation will NEVER disappear. But it matures. So is Crypto.
