decompress / unwind i’ve been a solopreneur for awhile now and it’s been really busy for me. At times it’s hard to balance everything. I get paid for the hours i’m working, which is good, but it’s crazy. i’m getting less sleep and just working myself like crazy during a clients summer sale event. my eating habits have been shit and my weight and fitness yo-yos, but once things simmer i’m ready to just detox/clean eat and all that. i count my blessings, but also feel like the world is shit at the same time with everything going on.

This is probably the most political I'll get. I've never been one to rant, but I do have my views and I always share them with my wife. I do think about updating party affiliation to Independent. Few reasons. One being targeted by MAGA. The other is not being happy with the Democrats either. Maybe they're voices are being drowned out in the media, but I just don't see or feel them fighting back except for a select few. Final words... I'm a never Trumper. I'm not down with MAGA at all. However, democrats are not any better. I do find myself more center over the pass years, but lean left. I can only control what I can control. It's hard at times to feel that way with how things are going, but I try to make the lives of everyone around me better and try not to go full gloom and doom with how the nation is.

I'm for capitalism, but I also see value in socialist things (libraries, fire department, universal healthcare, etc etc). My wife's cousin is against Taxes, but I think they're necessary. They help improve your community, roads, transportations, etc. Also, whether it's Maga Media or Crypto Twitter... I just see this hate/disdain for California. How it's too expensive. How people hate it, yet I read subreddits of other states hating on people who flee California (who have gripes with the state) yet are making there new state (whether it be Texas, Nevada, Arizona) into the state they left. It's a weird feeling. Yes, I get it California is not affordable, but people who leave the state always want to come back. Yes, there's a price for living here. It's not for everyone, and there are other parts of California that are affordable.

This the first time I heard him talk about it. In some ways, I get where he's coming from. He's not there to try to change anyones minds as he's also not trying to change his thoughts as well. However, there's one thing he said that I get... "you can only control what you can control. What my beliefs and ideals are, aren't for others but that's just how I view and live by things. I'm not in the mindset of "hey let everyone carry a gun. it will make streets safer, because criminals will be criminals". However, I'm not anti-guns. I do believe there should be proper screenings that should be done. I don't own a firearm, but as I get older and having a family I do see the lure of owning one for protection.

My family spends the 4th at my wife's cousin's place for the neighborhood fireworks. This year felt different (some of her cousins, nephews and nieces weren't able to make it) in a certain capacity. The whole ICE thing I have had anxiety over has kind of worn out. I mean it still is a real situation, it affects me directly but just worrying about it has left me (for the most part). It's just a sucky situation if something where to ever happen. One of my wife's cousin, who is conservative. I don't think he's necessarily MAGA, but he's against taxes, pro 2nd amendment, etc etc etc.

We’re back home safe. Road trip was a success. We were flexible enough to make stops along the way and also not take stops along the way to make it back home in time (pick up our dogs and drop off turo rental) I have lots of thoughts to unload. Client/Job #1 which was the more stable one is kind of up in the air and I need to figure out next steps. Visited my aging aunt. Also got news of a distant relative (we call him grandpa) recently passed. Lots of mini things happening and I want to get a grasp of things that can be controlled. In the mean time, things are on. Everyone’s healthy. My parents are in great health. With all that’s happening in the world, everything at home is ok.

Also….. I’m printing out copies of documents like passports, birth certificates for my family and myself in the fkn case something happens, which is ridiculous. I’m not hispanic, but brown enough to be pulled over and I feel Asian/Islanders are probably the next targets with the current admin.

I’m born and raised here. I’m American. My parents are migrants who are documented, naturalized and have every right to be here as do I. Yet, during these times I feel like anything can happen and its such a fcked up thing to go through. It’s all for show. It’s all intimidation. It’s a complete show of power IMHO. Survive, vote, and contribute to things that will make a difference. hopefully the time away, the scenic drive and the visiting of family will help. My kids don’t know what’s going on, but as an adult, as a parent, as someone who helps my parents out…. it’s fkin terrifying to be honest. Then I feel like I have to play along at times with assholes who share the Cult mentality. Praying for peace!

The kids are officially out of school and there summer vacation starts tomorrow. Packing and getting ready for a road trip. Visiting my parents and an aunt who’s recovering from a stroke. We’re off to the northern central coast (california) and driving down the scenic route all the way back to southern california. One that that sucks, and it’s just not a great feeling all around is the doom and chaos that seems to surround us. We’re getting drawn into another war and things feel grim everywhere yet crypto twitter is just bunch of bros being bros. Im cali were dealing with protests and ICE raids. Something that hits dearly to me.

i’ve been going through work burnout recently. managing 3 clients, not following plans and structure led to a whole array of bad habits. this week was spent in a reset and to get me back on track. i’ve also been enlisting chatgpt. i write out thoughts and ask it to write it out more clearly. i also ask chatgpt to help give me a game plan.

Self-Employed It’s been hectic and busy for me. I’m still on contract terms with the company (baby bassinet) that let me go, but i’ve been more ad hoc with what I do for them. They’re also overdue on my first invoice. I don’t think they have the funds and that’s partially why I’ve stopped doing any type of work for them. My other client (beachwear) that does pay, has started my new contract terms and has kept me super busy. Work keeps me interested and has me using ChatGPT. I’ve recently acquired a new client (eyewear) as well and will start doing work for them. This is a 3-month contract. The beachwear is 6-month and my baby bassinet is about a month more. I forget how much hustle being self employed requires. You have to sell yourself, project manage your task, book keep on top of your skills that you were hired for.

The Markets, Geopolitical Climate, Tarrifs, and The Admin 2.0 has served as a big distraction this week and last. I don’t think I need that type of time and energy drain so I need to refocus and realign. Back to freelancing and project planning.

Fears of Recession I'm fortunate that I'm able to try freelance for the foreseeable future. Yes, tariffs can and will impact my clients, which then affect me but I'm currently treading water. I've locked in a 6-month contract with higher pay-rate. I have another contract, which I need to take more advantage of, until June. My sister's company just laid off her entire Prod Dev group, but fortunate she got 3 months severance. Her company literally told the team the day after "Liberation Day" that they're getting rid of the department. Trump 2.0 admin is def playing FAFO, but apparently DGAF. I don't think he knows what he's doing and what consequences it brings, but as a marketer and con man he's saying things are intended. I think people forget how dysfunctional his last term was. Maybe this term his loyalist stooges are more aligned, but I wouldn't count in-house fighting and dysfunction. I think shit gets crazier.

It's basically the end of my night. I'm trying to get some coding in, but my eyes want to shut. I think I'm actually sleeping in early tonight.

Things could be worse, but things are ok. I don't want to complain too much. At times I feel stressed and overwhelmed, because I don't have control of things. I just recently created "large blocks" of time on my calendar that are dedicated for the two clients I have. I also make time in the morning just to gather and plan things for the day. I have a block of time to work outside and soak in the sun. I have blocked off time at night to just wind down and also make sure my hours are tracked correctly. This has given me more control and making me feel less overwhelmed. Of course, I make time where it's with family: Be with kids during breakfast, drop them off to school. Pick them up and eat dinner with them. Right now, vibing in my own lane while creating the lane at the same time.

Thoughts / Mindfullness When I don't have time (or make time) to journal, I'll let my thoughts out on either here or my other anon journal type twitter account. Bad Vibes Just want to air out gripes. Not all clients are the same. I really dislike doing the tasks I have with one client, which was my previous employer. They're really are in a "throw as much shit on the wall and see what sticks" mode. I'm not really involved in any of the chaotic things they're trying to do. Instead I'm creating documentation and tutorials. I'm setting up meetings and going over procedures for the Marketing Team and Engineering Team. It work I really not aligned with doing, but I'm doing it because it pays a higher pay rate. However, I dread the work. Good Vibes I enjoy working with my other client. There are lots of tasks that actually involve developing and engineering. I actually just proposed a 6-month contract with higher pay rate and it looks like it will go into affect mid month.

Life happens fast when too much shit is going on in your life... I haven't been doing my "mindfulness" routine, but will try. I just want to say, there's lots of stuff I can cry and complain about, but that doesn't do anything constructive. So below are some positives. > I got my annual (bi-annual) physical. Lab results good. Blood pressure has been in the normal/ideal range for the past 3 weeks now. > Fitness has been on point. I'm literally in the best shape in my life. Gradual changes was the key thing for me. Easier for me to maintain and to add things onto. > I'm locking in a 6-month contract, with higher hourly rate with my current client I took on this past year. > I'm still on contract with the company that let me go until June, but I really avoid trying to do work for them. > I have an "interview" with a potential client that has a higher hourly rate with 15-20 hours of work a week. > Family has healthcare coverage. Blessed 🙏

Health & Fitness Progress - I’m now averaging 6 hours of sleep a day. -I still drink only 1 cup of coffee a day and 2 to 3 cups of decaf. - I go for more walks. I try to do it after a meal. - My blood pressure has been below 130/75 - I dropped a couple bounds this week. - I dropped 1/4” in waist - I can do more pull-ups, pushups, sit-ups I go in for my physical this coming week. Hopefully everything else is good!
