Rice cultivation in India takes place from sea level to an altitude of 3000 m and from 8 to 35 degrees north latitude. Rice requires a warm and moist climate and grows best in areas with high humidity, long hours of sunshine and adequate supply of water. The average temperature during the lifetime of the crop should be between 21 and 42 degrees Celsius .
