A lot of pots will let you remove the bottom disk that catches the water. I like to take those off when possible, set in a sink or tub when watering, and let it sit there a while to let it fully drain so there’s no sitting water.
For pots without drainage- less water, less often. Don’t soak the soil 👍🏼

This. The key is the right amount of neglect. It’s much easier to bring a dry plant back to life than an overwatered one - there’s a good chance the roots are already rotting if it’s overwatered too much.
That said, a pot with good drainage is also important
