Bitwise is hiring a mid-level backend engineer to work from our NY office: jobs.lever.co/bitwiseinvestments/bf20b692-0955-45c4-9d80-b10af800418a It's a chance to work closely with me and many senior internal stakeholders, building tools for portfolio management, operations, research, etc. Bitwise is a great place if you want to: - Learn how traditional financial products are built and managed - Work with colleagues that care deeply about crypto - Balance the fast pace of crypto with a steady operating culture (Bitwise is 100+ ppl, 8 years old, profitable) - Take on more responsibility and do more Apply online or DM me if you have questions!

For startups, i've basically stopped believing in the traditional design interview loop. My dream design interview loop: 1. 30m portfolio review 2. Onsite to produce eng-ready mock in a tiny area Everything else is just noise. Bonus: pick anything in the app, ship 1 PR to make it nicer.

1. allowed people to trade instantly with higher limits as long as they didn't withdraw, before the money from their bank hit CB's account 2. it worked because it drastically reduced the friction to trade, which is what people signed up to do on coinbase 3. impact was a massive boost to trading revenue lol

As always, in the words of Eames – design is not the production of pictures. "it's a general method of action" and the world is in perpetual need of action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmgxDCujTUw

Humbling experience as a designer really. Makes you realize what levers affect a trading business (hint it's not drawing rectangles lol). Also makes you realize that everything can be a design problem if you stop thinking of design as drawing rectangles

Whole app redesign: no impact on core KR considered success. Shipping WBL: paid for a year worth of salaries for hundreds of people.

Reflecting on my time at Coinbase as a designer: The most visible thing I did was redesigning app homepage + shipping a new redesigned mobile app. The most valuable thing I did was designing a settings screen for withdrawal limits & new fraud models. Many lessons from this.

Little known fact is that the ARR of all SaaS companies serving the crypto market summed together is less than $100M 😂, especially when you exclude service revenue / implementation fees that many companies are lowkey misrepresenting. If you rolled all of them up, you'd have a single growth stage company lol. Fireblocks, Chainalysis being the notable exceptions because they serve instos and governments.

7. Where stablecoins outcompete trad payment rails. Predict the next corridors where stables become competitive 8. Cover circle deeply. They're in a very unique position sitting on a valuable asset, but sandwiched by coinbase. what's their next best move? 9. Crypto venture fund performance, and the unique nature of investing in the crypto market 10. Explain market maker business and pricing model 11. Cover Binance & BNB chain deeply (will require some investigative journalism)
