Reflecting on my time at Coinbase as a designer: The most visible thing I did was redesigning app homepage + shipping a new redesigned mobile app. The most valuable thing I did was designing a settings screen for withdrawal limits & new fraud models. Many lessons from this.
Why fiat-to-crypto stuff is hard in the US, prioritized by difficulty 1. Fraud … … 2. Regulatory 3. Fiat Partnerships … … … … 4. Sales … … … … … … 5. Tech / UX / design

Whole app redesign: no impact on core KR considered success. Shipping WBL: paid for a year worth of salaries for hundreds of people.

Humbling experience as a designer really. Makes you realize what levers affect a trading business (hint it's not drawing rectangles lol). Also makes you realize that everything can be a design problem if you stop thinking of design as drawing rectangles

As always, in the words of Eames – design is not the production of pictures. "it's a general method of action" and the world is in perpetual need of action

for the most valuable: if you put the before and after next to each other, what are the most meaningful differences? why do you think it worked?

1. allowed people to trade instantly with higher limits as long as they didn't withdraw, before the money from their bank hit CB's account 2. it worked because it drastically reduced the friction to trade, which is what people signed up to do on coinbase 3. impact was a massive boost to trading revenue lol
