- Carvings were usually done on sandstone, basalt or granite.
- Subjects include myths, gods, dances, animals and geometric patterns.
- Many of these works were made between the 6th and 12th centuries AD.
- Styles vary depending on the region:
- Vijayanagara (Hampi) → Musical pillars and warrior figures
- Chalukya (Badami) → Buddhist and Hindu sculptures
- Chandla (Khajuraho) → Very delicate carvings
