Gotbit founder and CEO, Russian citizen Aleksei Andriunin, has been extradited to the United States on suspicion of "manipulating the cryptocurrency market on behalf of client cryptocurrency companies." The Massachusetts Attorney's Office said Andriunin appeared in court on Wednesday and was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of "wire fraud and conspiracy to manipulate markets and wire fraud." Andriunin was arrested in Portugal last October. Prosecutors accuse him of creating a false appearance of active trading and driving up the price of specific tokens by creating a cryptocurrency company, falsely advertising tokens and engaging in wash trading. In addition, companies such as ZM Quant, CLS Global and MyTrade are also involved. Prosecutors said Andriunin admitted in a 2019 interview that he had developed code for "wash trading" to artificially increase trading volume so that tokens could be listed on CoinMarketCap and traded on major exchanges.
