What Happens If You Drink Seawater?
Drinking seawater actually dehydrates your body instead of hydrating it. Because it contains high levels of salt, your kidneys must use extra water to flush that salt outmaking you even more thirsty. Too much seawater can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness, muscle cramps, and in severe cases, confusion or organ stress due to rising sodium levels.
Fun fact :
Sailors in survival stories often get sick faster when they drink seawater because the salt level is almost four times higher than what our body can handle.
Your kidneys can’t process seawater as-isthey must pull fresh water from your body just to dilute the salt, which is why seawater makes dehydration worse.
