How thick is the submarine communication cable (optical fiber)? Will it be broken by fishing boat, earthquake, or submarines? Just to add something They are pretty chunky - 69 mm is sort of the standard. The optical fiber strands in the center are well guarded by steel cable to provide strength during the laying process. The ships that lay cable have underwater sled that digs a trench that buries the cable and covers it. Map of all the undersea cables
