Fun fact I unsuccessfully pitched Coinbase on making their own USD stablecoin in late 2016 / early 2017 and wrote up a whole spec for it :P
But big subscriber to ideas are cheap and it's all about the execution i.e. team that ended up launching USDC crushed it and timing was great
