Random thought of the day: I think the next vehicle I buy will be old, not new. My favorite vehicle was a 1988 Ford F150. That thing could handle anything and it just kept on going. And fixing it was actually possible! New cars are nearly impossible to fix on your own.

Is the ease of fixing the reason for wanting to buy Old vehicles?

Part of it. And they just seem to be built better. To last.

Is this true though? I remember seeing more older cars on the side of the road growing up than the modern cars today. 

With that said, that is the truck I want as well. Unfortunately vaving an extended cab makes more sense for me.
