Ethereum nodes are globally dispersed. This is the foundation for trustless, intermediary-free transactions on the Ethereum network, the foundation for the future global settlement layer, and one of the reasons why the new L1 is so difficult to catch up. The current new L1 (some with over 20 nodes and a very low degree of decentralization) will likely evolve into Ethereum's future L2.
