as a society, it feels like we’ve forgotten how to make things for the public good instead of for profit there used to be an assumption that some things were worth building simply because everyone should have them (internet, gps, libraries etc.) now everything is either pay-to-use, or 'free' as long as you’re either: a) willing to guzzle corpo ad slop b) happy to accept that it’s subsidised at the start and will eventually get paywalled a consequence of a system that rewards extraction over care
