at first i read this and thought: 'yeah, people should be able to speculate on whatever they want'
but upon reflection, speculation and culture sit at opposite ends of the spectrum
speculation brings the future into the present, prices attention over meaning, and rewards volatility over stability
culture on the other hand moves slowly, absorbs contradiction, and protects meaning
some things should be sacred
not everything needs to be a data point
we shouldn’t be trying to front-run culture
