Is this the worst snowstorm California has ever seen? There have been many heavy snowstorms in the Sierra Nevada range in California. The heaviest snow storm I have ever experienced was in the winter of 1969. I was in college at the time and my friends and I were hired to remove snow that had completely covered a ski cabin at the Bear Valley Ski Resort. It took us all day. The Spaniards named this mountain range in the 18th century. Sierra Nevada is Spanish for “snowy mountain range”.
