@farquest are you aware of the Purple Earth Hypothesis? The fact is that the Sun's spectrum actually peaks at wavelengths that are responsible for the yellow-green light - so green (which would be absorbed by purple plants) is very energy-rich. It's so inefficient that the Earth's vegetation doesn't want it :(
