It is already compatible with FIP-2, requires no protocol changes, it's flexible and relatively un-opinionated. It also comes with some advantages such as easy ownership transfers. An even more "advanced" domain manager could allow FIDs to sign changes and transactions to be sent by a "gas station" paid in warps.
