Normie friend on vibe coding.
Context: Has studied engineering, used to be b2b software pre-sales, has his own retail business now. Likes to fiddle with SQL and Excel macros, and a couple of lines of code copy-pasted from here and there, but he's no developer.
- About a month ago: "Software developers are done, LLMs will do everything".
- Yesterday: "I downloaded Cursor. Dude, we are so far from AGI, wtf is it doing!"
On a more serious side, he said it's extremely empowering because he has been able to put together a proof of concept without a developer. But if he decides to go ahead with is, he will ask the AI to describe what the code does, and create a detailed project spec and give it to a developer.
"And the developer will feed it to an AI", he laughed.
He's probably right, but the dev will also add the technical details that he can't describe or is not even aware of: "use this framework, break these parts in modules, create a binary tree for this structure, add a message queue there, use the browser local storage this way, cache these values using a kv-store using a key created like this, etc."
