Citrea has launched a public testnet, creating a solution that allows Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) developers to access the Bitcoin blockchain. The team believes this testnet is a significant step towards using Bitcoin as a settlement layer for decentralized applications (apps).

Citrea testnet has launched on Bitcoin's Testnet4, providing a platform for developers to create decentralized applications (dapps) without sacrificing Bitcoin's sovereignty. The project introduces a minimum trust approach using BitVM and the Clementine bridge that will allow bitcoin (BTC) to be securely connected for use in decentralized finance (defi).
By opening up the Bitcoin blockchain to EVM-compatible applications, Citrea aims to extend the utility of Bitcoin without relying on guardianship solutions. Citrea's infrastructure focuses on strengthening security and decentralization.
