How do you see the balance between "glue" and "coprocessor" architectures evolving in the next decade, especially in fields like blockchain and AI where both efficiency and security are paramount?

How is this going to change with AI? I assume software (and soon after - hardware) design cost will come down by orders of magnitude. Will it make ASIC affordable at lower scales, or transpiling for efficiency more common? Both?

How can the drive for efficiency in computing ensure that it does not compromise critical values like security, openness, and simplicity?

The term that comes to my mind as I read this is from the Racket Community "Language Oriented Programming". Continually search for new DSLs that can be made and then design chips for those small DSLs. Have high level DSLs that orchestrate all the smaller parsers, like a symphony.

A computer has two important parts. Let’s call them the “Brain” and the “Helper.”

Brain (Glue): This is like the computer's brain. It tells everything how to work and makes plans. But sometimes it can be slow because it tries to do everything by itself.

Helper (Coprocessor): This is a special friend who helps the Brain by doing specific tasks very quickly. For example, if you have a big math problem, the Helper solves it really fast. But it only does that one thing really well.

How Does It Work?

Imagine you’re solving a puzzle. First, you figure out what the puzzle is (that’s the Brain’s job). Then, you use a special pencil to solve it quickly (that’s the Helper’s job).

In the computer, the Brain tells the computer what to do, and the Helper does the hard work very quickly. This way, everything works faster and better!
