I think low-risk DeFi will be a huge unlock for people in countries without reliable access to banks and financial products. In developed countries, adoption will probably be slower since traditional banking works fine and the upside doesn’t outweigh the friction of switching. Funny enough, that’s also where people have more money per capita, so their impact could be the biggest. Either way, great read, excited to watch the transition play out.

While defi can’t sustainably achieve higher yields, I think it basically can achieve “treasuries or better”. As more tbills come on chain, the defi lending rate will bottom out there, unlike this past bear market where it dipped below for a bit.

Make low-risk Defi Ethereum's primary profit center. A.k.a. cash cow.

I strongly hope usd becomes less important as time goes on; I'd love to make peanut have use a non usd flatcoin by default

Good read. We’ve been experimenting with a permissionless staking → farming setup (stake token A, earn token B). I guess you could see it as turning community rewards into a kind of low-risk DeFi primitive. 32768 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Yep, Aave + Uniswap alone are enough DeFi killer apps to conquer TradFi

This makes me excited for the future 🩵 defi is nascent but it is already disruptive and powerful. Ethereum is also going to unfold in so many other creative new directions that nobody saw coming. I love it to infinity.

Just curious, what do you consider to be the current (and/or acceptable) “Tail risk” for smart contracts? Even a 0.05% chance per year in TradFi warrants a credit downgrade, so ideally that risk should be hedged/insured somehow

Low-risk DeFi could be the surest way to bank the unbanked and also encourage institutional adoption of crypto by encouraging banks to move their operations onchain. The users will have access to better yields and much better asset management services, all at low risk. I think this in a way aligns with Vaulta's ideal of web3 banking and onboarding the next billion users from TradFi onto DeFi.

And yet again the question must be asked on exactly how decentralised running on centralised infrastructure is achieving anything other than paying AWS and the other centralised clouds.

Agreed. I just don't love that USDC and alternatives are the focus. Wish there were low risk options for other currencies or even ETH. You could argue that's staking I guess.
