How Can We Distinguish Between Thoughts That Are "Naturally Generated" and "Input" from External Sources?: The line between natural thought generation and external input (e.g., through brain-machine interfaces or memory implants) is blurred. Neuroscientists may develop tools to track neural patterns associated with internally versus externally generated thoughts, but it would likely remain difficult to definitively separate the two. Philosophically, this also raises questions about the nature of consciousness and free will.
